Dr. Michael J. Flohr, M.D., Named Top Ophthalmologist

Consumers’ Research Council of America has named Dr. Michael J. Flohr, M.D., in their list of top Ophthalmologists with special recognition as a cataract surgeon in the United States, three times. The list of top Ophthalmologists is compiled by utilizing a point value system, which is deemed valuable in determining top Ophthalmologists. To insure an unbiased selection, the Consumer’s Research Council of America does not accept fees, donations, sponsorships or advertising from any individuals, professionals, corporations or associations. The list is compiled to create a good starting point for individuals to find an exceptional Ophthalmologist in their area and acknowledge accomplishments of physicians.

As of July 2008, Dr. Flohr has been in practice for 24 years.

Training: Education and Continuing Education:

Dr. Flohr graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire (Magna Cum Laude) with a Bachelors of Science in 1976.  He obtained his Doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1980.  He performed a one year surgical residency at Marshfield Clinic and a three year Ophthalmology residency at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in 1984. Continuing education is very important to Dr. Flohr, he completes 50 hours of accredited on-going education each year, some of which is done by attending multiple, national meetings for the advancement of eye care.

Dr. Flohr and other members of his staff most recently attended the 2008 ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) Symposium on Cataract, IOL and Refractive Surgery in Chicago, Illinois on April 4 – 9, 2008.

Professional Associations: Member of Ophthalmologist Associations:

Dr. Flohr is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, (through which Dr. Flohr is Board Certified), Michigan Ophthalmologic Society, Michigan State Medical Society and the American Society to Prevent Blindness. 

Dr. Flohr has been a past president and is a current member of the Barry County Medical Society.

Dr. Flohr has excelled in all areas of Ophthalmology, resulting in the Consumers’ Research Council of America naming him three different years, a Top Ophthalmologist. The award denotes Dr. Flohr’s specialty and accomplishments in Cataract Surgery. Dr. Flohr owns and practices with Advanced Eyecare Professionals, which has locations in Hastings, Ionia and Lowell.
